It’s Your First Sweater Knit Along
Have you ever been nervous about knitting a sweater? Now is the time to conquer your fears! This beginner-friendly knit along is perfect for new knitters who want to learn new skills. Registration is required (link to be posted shortly).  Yarn selection and supplies will be discussed on the first class.

Class Schedule
May 8, Class 1 – Review

  • Review pattern
  • How to measure, and discuss ease
  • How to pick a yarn, fiber content and care
  • Review supplies needed.
    • Yarn, needles, stitch markers, darning needle and waste yarn. (Extra needles will be available to borrow for swatching homework)
  • The importance of swatching

Assignment to be completed for next class 5/15

  • Purchase yarn for sweater
  • Knit 3 swatches, due class day 2.  Download Homework – Updated 5/8
  • Bring towel to next class for blocking swatches

May 15, Class 2 –  Measuring gauge and block swatches

  • Swatch homework due, bring in yarn labels
  • Measure gauge on each swatch before blocking
  • Block swatches and re-measure gauge
  • Determine which needles are needed
  • Get started and cast on!
  • Knitting with circular needles, joining in the round

May 22, Class 3 – Knit In

  • Separate the body and sleeves
  • Practice sew binding off

Assignment to be completed for next class: Complete body of sweater if possible

May 29, No Class – Memorial Day

June 5, Class 4 – Knit In

  • Pick-up and knit sleeves

Assignment to be completed for next class:  Complete one sleeve if possible

June 12, Class 5 – Knit In

Assignment to be completed for next class:  Complete second sleeve

June 19, Class 6 – Show and Tell Party

  • Bring in your garments (completed or not) and show them off
  • Be proud of your accomplishments
